Innovation Description

Profile
Innovator Shri Gadigayya Hiremath hails from Bijpur district of Karnataka. He is an innovative farmer is practicing agriculture through various innovations of his own in a native village of village ' Yalwar' of Bajaput district of Karnataka. Innovator was inspired by a book entitled " Krishi Jnana Pradeepike" by Shri Ghanamatha Shivayogi a well-known seer of this region when he was in the seventh standard. This book contains information on agricultural practices. Two statements made in the book - one: hundred seeds sown on the earth give rise to thousands of grains and the second: sinless and clean food comes only through agriculture, influence the young boy Gadigayya to take agriculture as the profession. In 1995, he has developed a multi-purpose three in one equipment - manually operated seed cum fertilizer cum weeder.

Purpose
The implement is used as a weed remover, for adding manure and seeds sowing in one line.

Technical details
Bicycle weeder cum seed drill consists of a hopper, seed tube and tine for sowing seed and a blade on the backside for weeding purpose. It has a bicycle wheel attached in front of the forward movement. It weighs 30 kg only.

Performance

Mr. Gadigayya  claims that two laborers are required for sowing 2-acre land in a day.

Benefits
It is a light weight and easy to use multipurpose bicycle weeder. It is eco-friendly and will ease the work of farmer.
