Innovation Description
During the
global pandemic, supply chains issues have impacted the production and delivery
of all sorts of products like tampons, are necessities and to more than 800
million people who menstruate on any given day, life can’t really move on
without them. The manufacturing company was struggled to source the raw
materials needed to produce tampons, and hardtime transporting the raw
materials to production unit and then transporting the final products to their
retail locations. The student decided to solve the problem by making a biodegradable
sanitary pad from banana peels. Biodegradable sanitary pads reduce agri-waste
and benefit the local economy by providing extra cash to banana producers.
Only 6 g of
banana fiber is required for making these sanitary pads. 1.5 to 2-meter-long
pieces of banana fiber should be collected early in the morning and late in the
evening when the banana trunk is soft. She cleaned the fiber and wiped it clean
with a moist cloth. The fiber was then straightened by gently pulling it with
the hands. The student take off the water-proof covering from the surface of
the fiber that was in contact with the skin. This pad is made primarily of
banana fiber and cotton and is 100% biodegradable. This pad is a good water
absorber and is inexpensive for the poor. It can be helpful for girls student
to maintain hygiene and safety during their periods.
