Innovation Description
Mr Basav Raj Santeshivara has developed the preparation to control of brown plant hopper in paddy crop
Targeted pest: Brown Plant Hopper (Nilaparvata lugens)
Targeted crop: Paddy (Oryza sativa L.)
Ingredients: Stick, Yellow torch
Methodology: During the day time, he holds a stick parallel to the ground and walks slowly commoving the top of the paddy plants from one end of the field to the other. This disturbs the hoppers settled on the top, and as he walks forward with the stick, the hoppers jump from plant to plant and finally to the fire set or pesticide (preferably herbal ones) sprayed at the end of the field. The hoppers get attracts by the light if a person walks in the night with a torch in hands. The hoppers will simply follow the light for a fair distance.
