Innovation Description

Profile
The innovator is from Amreli district of Gujarat. \

Purpose
The innovator has developed an alarm to alert a sleeping person against an earthquake.

Technical Details
In this system, the iron cone is hanged to stand with the help of fine conductive wire with the top downward and adjustable in the groove of the plate with a hole. The gap between the cone head and plate with the hole can be increased or decreased as per the required gap. Proper setting can be done with the help of a button and mild shocks can be noticed through the gap. When the earth vibrating the cone makes no movement because of inertia and the gravitational force on the pendulum, while the plate is displaced and touches the cone. The circuit is complete and the corn sounds. It works on battery power which can last up to two years continuously.
It depends on the vibrational energy transferred by an earthquake to building walls, floors, etc. The vibrational disturbance causes a few conductive parts of the device to be displaced against inertia and complete a circuit which signals the earthquake through buzzer/ alarm.

Benefits
It gives a warning before significant ground shaking starts.
