Innovation Detail

Innovation Description

Profile
Innovator Mr. Chandra Prakash Patidar hails from Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh. He is a farmer by profession and  has been engaged in the agriculture of garlic and onion for several years. He noticed that the demand for the bigger garlic is always high and thus they carry a premium price attached to it.

Purpose
Mr. Chandra Prakash started employing workers to grate the garlic into three sizes viz. small, medium and large. However, this process is  a time-consuming and costly. He was losing a major chunk of revenue as he depends on labors for manually grading the garlic. He then thought of developing a machine wherein the process can become easy, cost-effective and less time-consuming. This led to the development of the garlic bulb grading machine.

Technical details
The machine is attached to the tractor and runs through the PTO power. Three winnowing plates are made for grading the garlic into the small, medium and large size. The strong vibration (too and fro motion) of the machine helps in grading the garlic. The working mechanism is similar to the winnowing of the wheat. The bigger sized garlic cannot pass through the winnowing plate and is driven out. The medium and small-sized garlic falls below on the second plate. Here, the medium size garlic is driven out. All remaining garlic which is either half-broken or is the clove of the garlic will fall on the ground, which also could be collected and sold in the market.

Performance
This machine can grade up 4 to 4.5 tonne per hour with fuel consumption of 2 liters/hr.

Benefits
All remaining garlic which is either half-broken or is the clove of the garlic will fall on the ground, could be also collected and is sold in the market.
