Innovation Description
Profile
Innovator
Mr. V. V. Chandran hails from Thrissur (Trichur) district of Kerala. He has studied up to 7th standard. He is a blacksmith by profession.
Purpose
Mr. Chandran developed electricity operated fully automatic machine to control the rats/mice from godowns or granaries to prevent them from damaging the grains.
Technical
details
The machine consists of a trap, robot and bucket. It runs on 1/4 hp motor. The trap is attached to the robot on one side and on the other side, a bucket is attached into which the trapped rat fall. Food is hooked on the food hook. When the rat touches the food, the connection between the hammer and hammerlock will be lost and the hammer falls on the neck of the rat with great force and kills it. The killed rat will be carried by the robot, which is connected to power to the bucket and the hammer assumes the initial position to trap the next rat. The whole process is completed in 40 seconds. As the initial position is attained the robots power will be switched off. As the rat cannot take the food, the food remains there forever.
Performance
According to
the innovator, 60 rats can be trapped in one hour. For one unit of electricity, the machine can catch 300 rats.
Benefits
The machine can effectively control the rats/mice from the godowns. The chances of grain spoilage can be minimized up to a greater extent if it remains intact from the rats/mice.
