Innovation Description
Profile -Mr. Narayan Singh Patel, the farmer, lives in Karakbel, Madhya Pradesh which is a small village in which Hindi is the local language and farming is a prevalent occupation. Since childhood, he is trying to develop new things related to farming. He has received a number of certificates, awards for developing new ideas in farming.
Genesis-
The innovator was using conventional seed drill which can sow seed at a distance of 18 inches. The innovator has faced problems during intercultural operation due to less spacing between two rows, so the innovator has modified the seed opener of existing available seed to solve his problems.
Purpose of this technology -This is a tractor-mounted modified seed drill which can be used to sow a wheat crop. The seed drill was modified by providing structural components at the bottom tines of seed drill to increase the production of crop. Using the modified seed dispenser/ broadcaster, seeds can be sown in a strip of 15 cm, which results in an increased probability of germination and hence the yield.
Performance -
The modified seed drill can cover 1.25 - 1.5 acres per hour with the fuel consumption of 2.5 to 3 L/h. The production is claimed to increase by 28%.
Benefits-
It is a new concept in which the broadcasting of the seed can be done by providing a removable box at the opener of the seed drill.
As per the claim, the modified method broadcasts the seed away from each other because of which the plants compete for less among one other and there is a greater rate of germination.
It can be used for sowing different crops which can be sown by the broadcasting method
