Innovation Description

Mr. Hanumanaram Jhariya from Chruru, Rajasthan has conserved a traditional pearl millet variety-Sulkhaniya Bajra.
Crop: Pearl Millet (Cenchrus americanus (L.) Morrone)
Salient features: Drought tolerant, Extra-long earheads with compact seeding, High yielding, Bold and nutritious grains, Sweeter taste, High fodder yield, Rich in sweetness, Preferred by cattle, Medicinal properties- used in stomach ailments.
Genesis: Hanumanaram’s forefathers obtained the seeds from Bikaner area some 300 years ago and have conserved the variety since then. He has been meticulously growing the variety since last 40-45 years and improved the variety through mass selection.
Cropping season: Kharif
